Project
Dumpster for an estate cleanout
Clearing a parent's or relative's home is slow work, and it should be. A container is for the end of the sorting, not the start.

Check with the executor or the rest of the family about what has to be kept: papers, photos, anything named in a will. Go through drawers, coat pockets and the backs of closets. It's common to find documents and keepsakes in odd places.
Let family take what they want first, then donations, then a sale if there's to be one. What's left goes in the container.
Ask for time
Estate jobs rarely fit a standard rental period. Ask about a longer stay, or a swap partway through, so nobody feels rushed on a weekend visit.
Size
A whole house with furniture is often a 20 or 30-yard. A small apartment may fit a 10. If you're unsure, start smaller and swap.
- Medical sharps: the Carey Ave hazardous material facility takes them.
- Paint, garden chemicals and cleaners from the garage and basement.
- Televisions, computers and phones: the Electronics Recovery Center next door.
- A fridge or chest freezer, emptied first.
Shred or keep anything with account numbers before it goes in the container.
Who should book the container?
Whoever can be there for drop-off and pickup, with the property owner's or executor's okay.
Can a neighbor keep an eye on it?
It helps. A full container sitting at an empty house can attract other people's junk.
Got a pile and a date in mind?
One call reaches an independent dumpster rental company working the Davenport area. A rough idea of what's going in, and where the container can sit, is all you need to start.
Rent a roll-off
Have your street, the project and the week you want it ready. The rental company quotes size, drop-off date and price.
