Dumpster for a garage, basement or attic cleanout
Years of storage come out bulky and fairly light. The work is in the sorting, not the lifting.

A one-car garage or a single basement room usually fits a 10 or 15-yard. A full basement plus garage, or a whole small house, is more often a 20. Old furniture fills space quickly, so take it apart where you can.
Set these aside
Each has its own drop-off; see what can't go in.
- Half-used paint, stain and thinner from the shelves
- Pool chemicals, weed killer, old fuel cans
- Old TVs, computers and tangles of cords
- A basement fridge or chest freezer
- Loose batteries
Fine for the container
- Broken furniture and shelving
- Boxes of old paperwork and clothes
- Holiday decorations past saving
- Carpet remnants and old rugs
- Scrap wood
Davenport's bulky waste collection comes every other week on your recycling day and takes items too big for the cart or too heavy for one person. If the job is a couch, a mattress and a few chairs, that may be all you need.
A roll-off earns its keep when the pile runs to dozens of items, or when you want the garage clear in a weekend rather than over several pickup cycles.

How do I get things up from the basement?
Clear a path to the stairs first and stage boxes near the door. Ask for the container's rear door to face the house so a hand truck can roll straight in.
Can I put old paint in if the can is empty?
Ask the company. Liquid paint never goes in; the Carey Ave hazardous material facility takes it.
Got a pile and a date in mind?
One call reaches an independent dumpster rental company working the Davenport area. A rough idea of what's going in, and where the container can sit, is all you need to start.
Rent a roll-off
Have your street, the project and the week you want it ready. The rental company quotes size, drop-off date and price.
